All As One

Nest was all the way at the bottom of the old catacombs, even deeper than the sewers that people form the city still expected. It was an ancient structure made of stones serving as a crossroad for one less than eight tunnels coming here.

“Bastards knew how to pick the place.” Evelyn whispered.

Being fast was always the plan, that being said, when it isn’t? Be it taking out sleeping monsters or kicking doors to the slaver's hideout and taking out all hostiles without hopefully hitting hostages chained to walls or hidden in cages.

Sheriff, gun mage or every other warrior had to be strong, smart but most of all being able to do what needs to be done as fast as possible.

“Make it quick.” Generals from the earth supposedly said once when they asked him how to make war more humane.

Problem is, humans wouldn't’ most likely shoe places like this for hideouts. Too many blind spots to get hit from back

Ghouls didn’t have that issue. They ranged in size from dog to bull, reamisnent of naked humans walking on all four. Their skin was greasy, their claws and mouths fitted with a series of relatively small yet razor sharp teeth.

Their eyes were poppin out slightly and despite sealant as that of a blind man, there were few creatures that could see in the darkness better than them.

“We let them escape>” Evelyn whipsred.

They manage to find a high ground with enough space for all twenty of them to form a half circle and the monster net.

Speed was important in every single combat operation but here, Evelyn could tell that if they won't do it perfectly at first try, they might as well give up now.

“If one ghouls gets out, there is a chance they will surprise us on our way up.” Evelyn whispered. “They know those tunnels much better than us and they won't be carrying injured hostages with them.”

“Needles to say that one of those bastards could take us all out if he surprises us.” Rino pointed out.

“Yeath, that.” Evelyn said. a

“Actually, I am strongest person here and I’d say weakest ghoul there could murder us all even if we saw him coming.”

“Also that.” Evelyn said.

Evelyn forced a smile. She needs them to know just how serious the situation is. And even more she had to make sure that pressure won't be too much for them before they even start.

“You can still turn back and let a girl, a showman and a couple of local kids have all the fun?”

“I mean, I would.” Keaton said. “All of you agree I am the most handsome fella here I’ll be on my merry way.”

“Keep dreaming bro,” Rino said. “As I will pretend that Steven doesn't trigger every single insecurity I ever had.”

“And they say we are the kids here.” Rebeca said.

“I can tell they are scared but they mask it well.” Evelyn thought. “I don’t need a fool to rush in and kill us all.”

“Don’t run from fear my dear.” Evelyn remembered Beneth’s words.
